Voting process started in Sudan on Sunday where the Sudanese people began casting their votes to select their representative for the presidency, state governors and legislative council in first multi-party elections in the country in more than 24 years.
Over 16 million voters will head to the voting centers to cast their votes for three days in these general elections, which were stipulated by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), inked between north and south Sudan in January 2005.
Sudanese election officials said the first hour of the voting process witnessed a medium turnout for the voters.
"There is a medium turnout for the voters during the first hour in the voting process," Mutasim Ibrahim, an election official at Arkawait voting center in Khartoum, told Xinhua Sunday morning.
He affirmed that there were no major problems hindering the process, but added that "there are slight errors associated with the voters where some of them have missed their registration cards, matter which delays procedures of confirming the voter's ID."
However, he affirmed that they could handle such cases by referring to the voter registration lists, though this process may take longer time.
Meanwhile, Ismail al-Hafez, the officer in charge of al-Azahary north's voting center in Khartoum, told Xinhua that the voters' turnout was relatively good but not high as it is the first day.
